Large Munsterlanders

Rhett shares his world with a few Large Munsterlanders. 

Large Munsterlanders are a German all purpouse  gundog breed. 
They come from the German long-haired pointers and carry the
blood of the old European "bird-dogs".  They share their history
with a lot of other gun dog breeds. 
In 1922 they were recognized by the FCI as a seperate breed and
named "Schwarz-Weisse Grosser Münsterlander vorstehhund".

Large Munsterlanders are wonderful dogs.  They can do it all :
hunt - point - retrieve.  They are truly allround dogs, specialized in
scent- and blood-trails (even days old), finding lost game and last
but not least, waterwork.

In their native region - Munsterland and Westfalen - they are used to
hunt down all kind of game, ranging from small birds like quayle and pheasant to deer and wild boars, with everything in between.
They are equally at ease in the water as on the land and can find
just everything - even wounded game that has been lost for a long
time. 

These dogs are very faithfull, lifetime long companions and will never let you down.  Kept by non-hunters they will enjoy all kinds
of dog sports like agility, fly-ball, obedience (not too much though,
they are easily bored) and everything else you can think off.  You should not keep a Large Munsterlander in a kennel or they will slowly wither away.   The greatest joy in life is to spend it with
their humans, preferably as close as possible.

I bought my first dog - Jesse - in 1980.  He was my best friend and was joined by Lana, my only bitch so far, 7 years later.   Jesse died
before Rhett came in our lives (hence the little line between him and
the others) but the rest of the gang saw this little "funny-colored"
furry wiggle but grow up to be my beautiful boy Rhett.  Off course he took some of their habbits, so he chases the pheasants on our
daily walks, just like his big idol Orry.
